Together with the City of Atlanta and the dedicated members of the Atlanta Continuum of Care (CoC), we have made significant strides in addressing homelessness. The CoC, composed of over 170 nonprofit, government, business, and community stakeholders, works tirelessly to end homelessness by promoting community-wide commitment and providing essential funding for rehousing efforts. Since we first collected data in the 2016 PIT Count, the number of our neighbors experiencing homelessness has decreased by 30%.
Our collaborative efforts have recently culminated in achieving the LIFT 2.0 goal, housing 1,553 unsheltered or chronic households – surpassing our initial target of 1,500 by December 31, 2024. This remarkable achievement brings us closer to our mission of making homelessness brief, rare, and non-recurring. Our key milestones include housing 160 households in permanent placements this year, 726 households through LIFT-specific initiatives, and many more through various strategic approaches.
Wendy’s journey was filled with challenges, but with the support of Mercy Care, part of the Atlanta Continuum of Care (CoC) led by Partners for Home, she has finally found her way home. This collaborative effort is helping individuals like Wendy transition from homelessness to secure, affordable housing every day.
Ms. Fears recently moved into her new home marking a major milestone after living at the Cooper Street encampment for five years. This transition is more than a change of address; it is a profound shift in her life journey. Overjoyed by the opportunity to create a new chapter, her excitement was palpable as she called her mother to share the joyous news that she now holds the keys to her own home. With the holiday season around the corner, she is eagerly looking forward to celebrating her first Thanksgiving in her new space, ready to prepare and share a meal that symbolizes gratitude, hope, and new beginnings.
