When Robin joined Atlanta’s Youth Action Board (YAB) in 2025, they were motivated by the friendships they’d made at The House of Hope and a desire to do more for young people experiencing housing instability.
As a peer at The House of Hope, Robin met young adults from many different walks of life who were navigating challenges with permanent housing, food insecurity, and employment. Through those connections, they became close with a couple of peers who were former Atlanta YAB members. Those peers recognized Robin’s strengths and encouraged them to get involved. Robin saw an opportunity to turn their concern for their friends and community into action.
Today, Robin serves as Secretary of the YAB, helping elevate youth perspectives in Atlanta’s response to homelessness. In addition to their role on the YAB, they’re passionate about using their creativity to make an impact.
Robin designed the cover of the new Resource Guide for Homeless Youth in Atlanta, drawing inspiration from the ideas of unity and community. They also created the logo for the upcoming Youth Homelessness Systems Innovation Conference (YHSI Con), bringing their artistic voice to two resources intended to inform, connect, and empower young people.
For Robin, getting involved also means encouraging other young people to become the best versions of themselves. They believe in the importance of taking chances on opportunities that may initially feel uncomfortable and encourage others to do the same.
Their message to youth who might be nervous about attending a conference alone or asking for support is simple. Staying in your comfort zone doesn’t create change. Everyone deserves the opportunity to build a fulfilling life, and trying something new can be an important step toward that future.
Robin’s contributions are a reminder of why youth leadership matters. Young people bring more than their experiences to the table. They bring ideas, creativity, relationships, and a vision for what their communities can become.
